Konpeitō (金平糖) is a traditional Japanese candy made of sugar, known for its colorful, star-like shape. Introduced to Japan by Portuguese traders in the 16th century, it was originally a luxury treat. Today, konpeitō is enjoyed as a nostalgic confection and often given as a gift or used in tea ceremonies. Its name comes from the Portuguese word "confeito," meaning "confection."
