This cat figurine has a soft touch because it is made from Washi Paper. 

Cats are revered in Japan and are seen as bringers of good luck. The most famous statue is the 'Maneki-neko', often seen with 1 paw up. These can usually be found at the entrance of commercial shops. Cats have played an important role in Japanese culture and society since well into history.
